Every summer, your roof should be taken care of with some simple maintenance to help prepare it for the autumn and winter months that are soon coming. Here are four simple tasks that should be done:
- Clean the Gutters: You can clean the gutters yourself or you can hire a professional. If you are going to do it yourself, just be sure that you are safe by having a stable ladder, a spotter helping you, and the right shoes and gloves to protect you from falling and touching anything that could be dangerous to your health. When you clean the gutters, you are doing two things that are vital for the health of your roof, which is ensuring that rain water can easily be pulled away from your home and finding any problems with the gutters that need to be fixed right away, such as a leak, gaps, and more.
- Rinse the Gutters: Once the gutters are cleaned, you will want to run water through them basically to test them. Sometimes, leaks are difficult to spot, especially small leaks because the hole or crack is not easily seen with the naked eye. When you run the water through the gutters, you can see where possible leaks are occurring and have them fixed before they become worse.
- Trim the Trees: There are two reasons trimming the trees on your property is important. One being that large and heavy branches are susceptible to breaking, possibly causing damage to your roof. The second being that large branches touching the roof can cause damage, leave lots of debris on the roof that can lead to mold and mildew growth, and allow pests to easily make their way into your home.
- Replace the Gutters When Needed: If your gutters do end up needing replacement, it's best to do it in the summer time when the work does not have to be pushed back because of rain. Plus, it ensures that this coming autumn and winter, you are going to have gutters that are durable to handle the tasks of moving snow and rain away from your home.
When you complete these four simple tasks every summer, you can be sure that your roof is more readily prepared to handle the upcoming harsh weather that is found in the autumn and winter season. This way, you are less likely to have to deal with major damages and repairs during this time. Click here to continue reading more.Share
